Molarity Calculator
Moles = mass/molar mass; molarity = moles/final solution volume in litres.
Preparing your tool…
Inputs and units
Enter solute mass in grams, molar mass in g/mol and final solution volume in mL. Use the correct compound form, including hydration, when choosing molar mass.
Calculation method
Moles = mass/molar mass; molarity = moles/final solution volume in litres.
Worked example
The example values are: Solute mass (g) = 5.844; Molar mass (g/mol) = 58.44; Final solution volume (mL) = 1000
- Moles: 0.1
- Molarity (mol/L): 0.1
Assumptions and limitations
Use final solution volume, not just solvent volume. Purity, hydration and temperature can affect preparation.
Using your result
Calculate after editing the inputs. Copy result saves the displayed values; Download result saves text, and Download CSV creates a spreadsheet-friendly report. Use Print report for a paper copy. Include inputs in copied links only when you want to share them.
Molarity Calculator FAQs
Is final solution volume the solvent volume?
No. Molarity uses the volume of the finished solution. Adding solute to a measured solvent volume does not generally leave that volume unchanged.
