Long Division Calculator
Divide whole numbers with quotient, remainder and a column-by-column long-division table.
How to use this calculator
Enter a nonnegative whole-number dividend up to 1,000,000,000,000 and a positive whole-number divisor up to 1,000,000,000. Use the decimal result for a numerical approximation.
Calculation method
At each digit, bring down the next digit, divide the current value by the divisor, multiply the quotient digit by the divisor and subtract. Carry the remainder into the next column.
Worked example
125 ÷ 4: the first 1 gives quotient digit 0; bring down 2 to make 12, subtract 12 and get 0; bring down 5, subtract 4 and leave 1. The answer is 31 remainder 1, or 31.25.
Save and share your result
Calculate after changing inputs. Print report prepares a clean printable view, and Download CSV saves the result. Copy link shares the tool; enable Include inputs only when you want those values visible to anyone with the link. Reset restores the example.
Long Division Calculator FAQs
How do I check the remainder?
Multiply the quotient by the divisor and add the remainder. For 125 ÷ 4, 4 × 31 + 1 = 125. The remainder must be smaller than the divisor.
Does it divide decimal inputs?
The step table supports whole numbers. The displayed decimal is the quotient of those whole-number inputs.
